Okay, so now you decide to have your own website. As a start, you need to buy a domain and subscribe for a good hosting. Wait, what? Domain? Hosting? Speak English please! Don’t get freak out yet, there is a simple explanation about those words
What is HOSTING?
Hosting is a computer server that runs 24-7, where we put all our files and data in a form of a website so people can browse around and find out more about our company / our product. You don’t have to buy your own server and leave it online 24-7, it is easier to pay a hosting provider to have your own space on their server. Common hosting with 2 GB space will cost you approximately 400-500 thou IDR per year. Yes, you need to “pay the rent” yearly.
What is DOMAIN?
Domain is simply a name for your hosting. Let’s say your hosting IP address is http://18.104.22.168. You do not want to tell your customer “Hey, please come and visit my website.. It is http://22.214.171.124”, do you? Instead, you will tell them “Hey, please come and visit my website, it is www.bestcompanyever.com”
Domain is not case sensitive, it cannot contain special character such as “?” or “!”. A dotcom will cost you approximately 120 thou IDR per year, while special domain will cost you more. Do not forget to renew your domain each year because once it is expired you won’t be able to use it again and need to purchase a new one.
What is CMS?
CMS stands for Contain Management System, simply means a website that already has an admin panel. You or the administrator of that website can access that admin panel and edit or add some new content on the website. There are many CMS nowadays, one of the most common one is WordPress. WordPress is easy to manage, light and has complete features. Other CMS are available such as Joomla, Shopify, Drupal, etc.
What is SEO?
SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. It is what people usually do to increase rank of a website on the search engine. A lot of things need to be done to increase that rank, such as writing blogs, post on the social media, create backlink, pay Google Adwords, etc.
